A typographic demonstration of a visual system that unifies differing components of a series
My goal was to research, conceptualize, and develop a poster series that communicates a progression of events and invites guests to attend a music-related gathering.
GETTING TO KNOW THE ARTISTS
PATTI SMITH
Patti Smith is an American singer, songwriter, and poet. She was an influential part of the New York City based punk rock movement. She went from busking on the streets of New York to being a world touring musician. Her music pulls from themes such as social commentary, personal experiences, and the essence of rock and roll.
JJJJJEROME ELLIS
JJJJJJerome Ellis is a disabled Grenadian-Jamaican American artist. They are interested in arts related to music, performance, writing, video, and photography. Their music focuses on themes relating to Ellis's own identity and among blackness, disabled speech, divinity, sound, nature, and time.
CHARMAINE LEE
Charmaine Lee is a Cantonese Australian vocalist based in New York. Her work expresses spontaneity, playfulness, and risk-taking. Along with musical composition, Lee focuses on the operations, strategies, and development of some of the largest talent programs in the world.
mind mapping
I researched the qualities of each artist and how they relate to one another and how I can incorporate that into my own work.
PHYSICAL DESIGN EXPLORATION
Here, I experimented with hands-on design and how I can move forward with different design systems.
INDIVIDUAL POSTER EXPERIMENTATION
I wanted to explore how a poster could become more elusive and experimental as it progresses, mirroring the style of the artists.
DESIGN SYSTEM EXPLORATION
I started experimenting working backwards as I knew Charmaine's poster designs would be the most experimental and difficult to display. Then went back to the more simple designs working with the design systems that were more successful with Charmaine's posters.
